Rich Hill has always been one of the most outspoken players in the league simply because of how smart of a person he is. He has always been the wise veteran for the Dodgers and that has not changed since he became a member of the Minnesota Twins this off-season.

Hill brought up some really excellent points with Dan Hayes of MLB.com recently to discuss the other people who were affected by the Houston Astros. While we might talk about the players who were directly affected by it — Clayton Kershaw, Kenley Jansen, Yu Darvish, etc. — there were numerous coaches and trainers and more people that were affected, too. The people who work hard inside of the organization were, in fact, cheated out of bonuses and incentives because of the Houston Astros.
Here is what Hill had to say about the issue:
“I think it’s something that I don’t want to bring that here into this locker room but I think about the guys that were affected that nobody talks about. The clubhouse guys, the guys that take photos for the team, the trainers, the coaches who may not have been as fortunate as some of us in this game so I think that’s where I really have a hard time swallowing.
Put aside the players, put aside the trophy and that’s another day for another conversation, but I think really when you think about it, there was a lot of financial downfall that came about that needs to be talked about.”
Dick Mountain is correct in every way. While the players and their legacies absolutely matter, there is more to it than that. There are so many people who represent an organization like the Dodgers that are almost afterthoughts in this situation and it should not be that way. Hill voiced that.
