Dodgers: Max Muncy Talks About Hurt the Team Felt After World Series Loss to Astros

As the sports world continues to unpack a lot, we also continue to parse the responses of Dodgers players from Saturday’s FanFest. While many players from that fateful 2017 World Series team that was likely cheated out of a championship have spoken their piece about the frustration of it all, one player not on that team gives us another side of emotion.

The hurt.

Max Muncy was in the Dodgers organization in 2017, but did not make his blue debut until the 2018 season. However, he did spend time with the big league club throughout spring training in 2018 and could sense that the clubhouse was still in pain.

You could see how much it hurt them and then this comes out. So you feel for those guys. They definitely hurt. And, if you remember, we struggled for a couple months there, and I don’t care what anyone says, I think that has something to do with it. When you’re that close, it’s heart-wrenching, and it’s tough to get it back.

Yes, we remember the struggles during the 2018 season. The club came out of the gate flat as whispers of “World Series hangover” got louder and louder. After getting to a season-low 16-26 record — 10 games under .500 — the return of Justin Turner to the lineup helped spark the team to win 26 of their next 35 games.

Now as the club looks to move on and focus on the 2020 campaign, the pain of what could have been will always linger at least a little bit.
