Yesterday Dodgers fans found themselves victims once again. This time it was in the form of a group speaking out on behalf all of Dodgers nation without, in fact, consulting the fans first.
Yes, on Tuesday, LA City Council approved a resolution demanding that MLB commissioner not only strip the cheating Houston Astros (and allegedly cheating Boston Red Sox) of their 2017 (and 2018) World Series titles, but also that baseball announce award the titles to the Dodgers.
The problem with that was that more than 80% polled resoundingly said they would not want their team to be declared World Series champions.
What should the Astros do with that World Series trophy?

With all that said, one day later, the commish responded to the LA City Councilmembers.
I think there’s a long tradition in baseball of not trying to change what happened.
Yes, you can read that as a “no.”
Manfred continued, unearthing flaws in the thought that Los Angeles be automatically awarded not one, but two World Series trophies after the fact.
Whatever the impact of the sign-stealing was, it could have changed who was in the World Series. It’s absolutely unclear that the Dodgers would have been World Series champion.
Additionally, Major League Baseball has yet to complete its investigation into the Red Sox and how deep former manager Alex Cora’s schemes ran in the Boston dugout. So with that, commissioner Manfred notes that “it’s a little hard to take the trophy away from somebody who hasn’t yet been found to do something wrong.”
Of course, the punishment for Boston should be forthcoming.
So rest easy, Dodgers fans — you will not be awkwardly awarded a trophy the team didn’t earn. And somewhere David Freese is resting easy.
Take the ring away? Maybe that’s the right thing to do. Maybe not. Who knows. Giving the title to the runner-up tho… that definitely ain’t it. Who would want it that way anyways.
