Dodgers: Cody Bellinger, Angels Mike Trout Named 2019 Sportsmen of the Year

Dodgers first baseman and outfielder Cody Bellinger is not done with his collection of awards this off-season. He now will be able to add 2019 Sportsman of the Year to his ledger that already includes the 2019 National League MVP, a Gold Glove, and a Silver Slugger.

The Los Angeles Sports Council made the announcement recently that he will be receiving the award at their 15th annual award ceremony. In addition, they announced that Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels would also be receiving the same award in 2019.

The MVPs will be honored at the 15th annual LA Sports Awards on Feb. 20 at The Beverly Hilton.

To receive the honor is special, but to receive it along with the greatest player in the game — potentially the greatest player of all time — is even more special for Bellinger. With his stellar 2019 performance and excellent track record so far, he has firmly placed his name amongst the game’s elite.

Bellinger now holds a top-tier career wRC+ of 140 and has already amassed 15.4 WAR through almost three full seasons. He is also on pace to put his name amongst the all-time leaders in home runs with 111 in total. He is just 24 years old.

We should expect more of the same from Bellinger going forward despite his decline from the first half to the second half last season. Bellinger is one of the brightest young stars in the game and the Dodgers and their fans are privileged to be able to watch him perform each and every night.
