Cody Bellinger Among Dodgers Announced For California Strong Charity Softball Game

It’s that time of year. Indeed, the second annual California Strong celebrity softball game will take place this Sunday at Pepperdine. The purpose of the event is to aid wildfire victims and those affected by the Borderline shooting. Moreover, some of your favorite Los Angeles Dodgers have been invited to participate.

You might recall that we wrote about this event last year, which was headed up by Mike Moustakas and Christian Yelich. Now, Arash Markazi writes in the LA Times about this year’s event.

First, Yelich talks about how a tragedy in his home state shook him up a bit more than when something horrible like the Borderline hits the news in another part of the world.

“I was out here when it happened and I’d been to that bar before,” Yelich said. “It definitely hits home more than seeing a bar you’d never been to before on the news. I knew where it was. I had been there. I knew I needed to do something.”

Next, Moustakas tells Markazi about how the wildfires directly affected his own family.

“I was already packing when [Braun] texted me to see how I was doing,” Moustakas said. “I left with my wife and kids and stayed with my in-laws in the Valley. I just didn’t want to risk it with two kids, and he decided to do the same thing. I remember when I was driving out, just seeing the orange glow on the hills. It was incredible. I had never seen anything like it. We were very fortunate to get out of there.”

Indeed, it was an unfortunate 2019 in some respects when looking back on the hardships that California faced. However, some good can always come from bad. It looks like Cody Bellinger is on the list of Dodgers to participate in the game, among other celebrities.

With a star cast ready to go, this game should bring a big turnout over the weekend.
