Dodgers: Gavin Lux Predicted to Win Rookie of the Year by MLB Expert

Gavin Lux has always had tremendous upside and the Dodgers saw it when they selected him in the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He was always a solid prospect in the system, but he emerged as a potential superstar with his insane performance in the minor leagues last season.

Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com penned in a recent column that one of his bold predictions was that the young middle infielder would win the NL Rookie of the Year award in 2020. Lux could perform at a small fraction of his 2019 minor league production and still be in the mix to win the honor.

Lux posted a tremendous slash line of .392/.478/.719 with Triple-A Oklahoma City across 49 games played. He chipped in 13 round-trippers and a 188 wRC+. His performance warranted a promotion to the big-league club and the Dodgers took notice. He was promoted and eventually made the postseason roster despite a lackluster 87 wRC+ in his first go.

While Gavin Lux may not have completely shown his upside off in 2019, he could find his rhythm with a full platter of at-bats in 2020. With the lack of moves made by the club, Gavin Lux appears to have at least a claim on the strong side of a second base platoon. The Dodgers will certainly play him if he is going to be up with the major league club.

Gavin Lux certainly has an excellent chance at being the next top prospect in a line of many for the Dodgers to win the National League Rookie of the Year.
