Dodgers: Cody Bellinger Talks About Winning The Gold Glove Award

On Sunday night, Cody Bellinger won the 2019 gold glove award. Moreover, he becomes the first Dodgers outfielder since Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp in 2011 to take home the hardware.

Now, Bellinger is talking about winning the prestigious award with Bill Plunkett of the OC Register. While hopefully this isn’t the only award quote Bellinger gives this month, let’s examine what he said. To add to that, Bellinger is going to be up for the MVP of the NL later on in the month of November.

Honestly, Bellinger sounds thrilled to own the Gold Glove hardware for 2019. Obviously, it’s hard not to picture Bellinger out back playing catch with the gold-dipped glove like it’s a toy. Still, here’s what he told Plunkett on what the award means to him.

“I’m not going to lie, it’s pretty cool to me. I’ve always wanted the gold (logo) on my glove. I’ve always wanted the gold (logo) on my glove,” Bellinger said, referring to the trophy logo only Gold Glove winners can wear on their gloves. “The people who have that obviously they’re really special defensively. So I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t really happy about this.”

Truly, you learn something new every day. Personally, I didn’t know that a logo was added to the glove of the award winners.

Furthermore, also was asked by Karl Ravech on ESPN-plus about winning the Gold Glove Award.

“It’s really special, I think going up through the ranks you have good defense but you don’t get appreciated for it. I was in right field this year and I tried to get as comfortable as I could every single day. And I had some nice plays early in the year and got rolling from that, so it feels pretty special.”

Finally, Bellinger has his well deserved Gold Glove Award. And in 2020 he will sport the gold logo on his rawlings that no one can ever take away from him. As special as it was for him to win the award, to watch him be a difference maker at any spot Dave Roberts put him on the diamond in 2019 was equally impressive.
