Dodgers News: Justin Turner Ties Jackie Robinson for A Franchise Record

In the first inning on Tuesday night at San Diego, Padres starting pitcher Ronald Bolanos became part of Dodgers history. Furthermore, he helped Justin Turner tie Jackie Robinson for a very distinct franchise record.

Now, Turner has been hit by a pitch 72 times as a Los Angeles Dodger. According to STATS LLC, that ties Robinson for the most in franchise history. However, a discrepancy between stats aggregators has Zack Wheat holding the all-time franchise record of 73; with some of his time coming as a Brooklyn Dodger.

Currently, Turner has been plunked 14 times by a pitch in 2019. Since becoming a Dodger, he’s totaled 6, 13, 10, 19, 12, and the current 14 in successive seasons. He lost a month-plus of the 2018 season after getting drilled during spring training.

Definitely, something about Turner’s approach in the box makes him more prone to being drilled with the pitch. That is to say – he has an approach to the baseball that makes him lunge towards the plate on every pitch. Obviously, the scouting report of opposing teams also calls for them to try to tie Turner up with inside pitches.

For this reason, he continues to accumulate this painful stat at a record pace. Equally important, he should demolish the all-time record with good health in 2020.

Turner is a gritty ballplayer, and the heart and soul of the Dodgers. Truly, can you think of a better guy who has stepped on the field wearing the blue to own this record? I can’t.
