Dodgers: Gavin Lux Takes Noah Syndergaard Deep

The Dodgers started off a 3-game series against the Mets tonight, in New York. It was the clash of the aces, with Clayton Kershaw on the mound against Noah Syndergaard. The Mets struck early with a 1-0 lead after the 1st inning. In the 4th inning, the Dodgers’ bats came alive as they notched 4-runs. In the 7th inning, the Dodgers pulled away, scoring 3 more runs, and defeating the Mets 9-2.

The offense was led by Gavin Lux who had a great game. He had 2 hits — including his 2nd career home run — and 3 RBI in 4 at-bats. He’s building on an already impressive start to this road trip for the Dodgers. Lux is 6-13 with 2 HR and 5 RBI on this road trip, so far.

The home run on Friday night is notable as it was hit off of New York ace Noah Syndergaard.

Following the win, Lux caught up with SportsNet LA anchor, Alanna Rizzo about the team’s outing.

Lux on hitting a 3-run HR:

”It was kind of a hanging curveball…I was just looking up and in and I got a pitch there…obviously the guys who got on before me, made it happen too, so it was great.”

Gavin on the quickness of his bat:

“Almost need to slow down sometimes…not get too pole happy, or try to hit HR’s.”

Lux on any additional pressure playing behind Clayton Kershaw:

”No, it’s honestly really fun, he throws strikes, he pounds the zone, he competes, and he makes it easy to play defense behind him…you know what you’re going to get every time.”

Lux on playing in New York for the first time in his Major League career:

”It was awesome, the atmosphere was great…the fans were loud…I enjoyed it a lot, it was a cool atmosphere, it was different for sure.”

On a day where Los Angeles got the injured Max Muncy back in the lineup, the rookie stepped up big as he continues to push for a playoff roster spot. Moreover, with Alex Verdugo likely not available for the first round of the playoffs, Lux’s path to October play becomes a little more clear.

He’s gotten his average back up to .273 after a 1-18 skid, and brought his wRC+ up to 121 on the season.
