Dodgers: Rich Hill Activated, Jaime Schultz Designated for Assignment

The Dodgers have activated left-handed starting pitcher Rich Hill from the 60-day injured list and have designated right-handed reliever Jaime Schultz for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Hill.

Hill had been out since mid-June with a flexor strain in his pitching elbow.

Hill, 39, was pitching pretty well prior to the injury as he posted a 2.55 ERA in 53 innings of work. The club is most likely expecting Hill to make as many as four starts before October and could factor him as the fourth starter in the playoffs.

Hill has quite the history in the playoffs with the Dodgers where he has absolutely thrived.

Schultz, 28, was picked up from the Rays a few months back and he only saw five innings of work at the big-league level with Los Angeles. He surrendered four earned runs across the five innings.

This move sends a ripple effect throughout the entire roster and pitching staff considering that not that long ago, Hill was no lock to be healthy prior to October. This move likely puts a Kershaw-Buehler-Ryu-Hill-Stripling rotation into fruition with Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May potentially making spot starts along the way.

Hill is in the final season of a three-year deal that he signed with the Dodgers after the 2016 season.
