Report: Russell Westbrook’s Reason For Choosing Clippers Revealed

The LA Clippers will sign Russell Westbrook after his buyout with the Utah Jazz

It was reported on by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Monday morning that former Los Angeles Lakers guard Russell Westbrook will be signing with the LA Clippers after agreeing to a buyout with the Utah Jazz. Westbrook, a nine-time All-Star and former league MVP, has received an ample of public support from Paul George, Marcus Morris, and Nicolas Batum.

According to Wojnarowski, “Westbrook had discussed deals with the Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards and Miami Heat in recent days, but the chance to compete for a championship and remain in Los Angeles played a significant part in his decision to choose the Clippers, sources said.”

This reasoning makes sense, as Westbrook not only gets to play for a contender, but he gets to remain home after spending the last two seasons in LA with the Lakers. As previously mentioned, Westbrook has received a lot of public support from his new Clippers teammates since being traded from the Lakers to Utah, with his former teammate Paul George leading the charge.

George was also asked during All-Star media availability which player he would like to see win a ring, and he said, “Probably Russ. Russ, just as much as he has been through – they paint the picture of him. He is absolutely one of the best dudes, best people in the league. It would be nice to see him get that ring.”

Now teammates again, George and Westbrook will have an opportunity to compete for a championship together.
