Chargers’ 2023 Season: Roster Trimmed to 53 Players, Notable Names Waived
Team Prepares for Highly Anticipated Season Opener
We’re just 12 days away from the much-anticipated kickoff of the 2023 season for Charger fans. The excitement has reached its peak as we gear up for what promises to be an extraordinary season in the history of the Chargers’ franchise.
Amidst the anticipation, the Chargers have been diligently preparing, and today, they’ve made a significant announcement that marks a crucial step before the action-packed games commence.
Before we dive into the thrilling details, it’s important to note that in order to assemble the strongest team possible, some tough decisions needed to be made. These decisions involved trimming down the team’s roster to a total of 53 players, all of whom will proudly represent the Chargers throughout the 2023 season.
And now, the moment we’ve all been waiting for – the unveiling of the final roster. Among the changes, a total of 35 players have been waived. This includes the likes of notable players such as tackle Zack Bailey, wide receivers Terrell Bynum and Keelan Doss, quarterback Max Duggan, and wide receiver John Hightower. Also among those waived are outside linebacker Carlo Kemp and International Player Pathway (IPP) participant CJ Okoye, who unfortunately did not make the cut.
As the Chargers prepare to embark on their journey into the new season, it’s important to acknowledge that every player’s dedication and hard work are valued. The road to the final roster has been a challenging one, and the team acknowledges the effort that every athlete put in during the selection process.
Looking ahead to the opening of the season, there are two players who will begin on the physically unable to perform list (PUP). These players are wide receiver Jalen Guyton and defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia. Guyton is in the process of recovering from a torn ACL he sustained early in the 2022 season, while Ogbonnia is undergoing rehabilitation for a ruptured left patellar tendon.
As we bid a hopeful farewell to the players who have been waived and wish them success in their future endeavors, we also extend our best wishes to the final 53 members of the Chargers’ roster. May they experience luck, good health, and triumph throughout the exhilarating 2023 season that lies ahead.
The countdown is on, and the Chargers community can hardly wait for the season to commence. The anticipation is building, the energy is electric, and we’re all eager to witness the thrilling moments that await us on the field. Let’s get ready to kick off the Chargers’ 2023 season!
