The Chargers have a new offensive coach set to work under Kellen Moore.
The Chargers have reportedly added another member to their coaching staff on Tuesday.
Just two weeks after hiring Kellen Moore as the new offensive coordinator, another former member of the Dallas Cowboys’ staff is coming to Los Angeles.
The Chargers are hiring Doug Nussmeier as the quarterbacks coach, as first reported by Dianna Russini of ESPN.
Nussmeier worked as the quarterbacks coach of the Cowboys since the 2020 season, and before that was the tight ends coach for the two years prior.
The coaching combination of Moore and Nussmeier led Dallas in becoming the No. 4 ranked offense last season and the top-ranked unit in 2021.
Nussmeier worked closely with Dak Prescott in which he recorded career highs in completion percentage (69.8%) and touchdowns (37) during the 2021 campaign. Last season, when Prescott was sidelined with a thumb injury for five weeks, Nussmeier and Moore guided the offense with backup quarterback Cooper Rush, going 4-1 across that stretch.
Nussmeier, 52, played five seasons in the NFL, serving stints with the New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts. Following his playing career, Nussmeier got his start in coaching with the BC Lions of the CFL.
His first NFL job came in 2006 with the Rams as their quarterbacks coach. He also spent 13 years coaching at the college level, mainly as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, including stops at Alabama, Michigan and Florida.
The Chargers have now filled all three of their coaching vacancies this offseason with Moore coming aboard as the offensive coordinator, Nussmeier becoming the quarterbacks coach and Jeff Howard joining the staff as the inside linebackers coach.
