While it was nothing new for the Chargers, this past season featured a handful of injuries that kept the team from playing at its full strength. Losing someone like Derwin James for the whole season or even Austin Ekeler for a few games makes a huge impact. Another player who was affected by an injury was center Mike Pouncey. Before the season even began, Pouncey was placed on the Injured Reserve after it was announced that he would be undergoing surgery on his hip.
His absence from the offensive line was notable as the season for the big men was just poor. Who knew that the 2019 season was going to the the last time fans would see him as a Bolt. In fact, Mike and his twin brother Maurkice, also a center, have decided to retire from the NFL together. The twin brothers retire with 13 Pro Bowls between them.
It’s my honor that my brothers from another asked me to announce the next stage in their life. After over a decade @MaurkicePouncey and Mike Pouncey are RETIRING from the @nfl 🤝. Below are their memos to thank those involved in their careers. #Steeler #chargers #Miami #NFL pic.twitter.com/v9IALOrZaX
