Dodgers News: Miguel Vargas Says He’s Ready to Compete at the Big League Level

The infielder talked about his approach to hitting and how he plans to build off his early success.

Dodger fans will have a keen eye fixed on Miguel Vargas this season. The 23-year-old rookie has made waves in the minor leagues with his impressive hitting skills, and now he’s ready to bring that success to the big leagues.

Now, with the 2023 season approaching, Vargas is ready to take on a big role with Los Angeles. Doug McKain of Dodgers Nation spoke to Vargas earlier this spring. The young infielder talked about his approach to hitting and how he plans to translate his success in the minors to the major leagues.

“I’ve just gotta try to do the same, what I’ve done the last five years in the minors. I know the big leagues have a lot of great talent, great pitchers, and I know I have a lot of guys here to help me, too. I’m just happy, and I’m just ready for it.”

Now, with Gavin Lux out for the season, the spotlight will shine even brighter on Miggy.

Vargas was initially signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent in 2017. For the Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers last year, the infielder played in 113 games, batting .304 with 17 homers and 72 RBIs. In 2022, the Dodgers promoted Vargas to the major leagues for the first time where he hit .170 with 8 RBI across 18 games.

Vargas has flashed impressive plate discipline and awareness over parts of four minor league seasons. And, spending time working with the talented coaching staff employed by the Dodgers should only help him get even better. If his success in the minor leagues is any indication, he has the talent and work ethic to become an elite player in the big leagues.
