Rams News: 3 Keys to a Rams’ Week 3 Win Against the Buffalo Bills

Los Angeles comes into Week 3 with a matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Both teams have been impressive early on and remain undefeated. It should be a high scoring affair and it’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top with a perfect record intact. We’ve broken down three keys that could be helpful for the Rams to be that team.

3. Target the Big Man

Last Sunday tight end Tyler Higbee had a monster game as he was the go-to man for Jared Goff. He caught all five passes thrown his way for 54 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The Buffalo Bills are fresh off a poor showing last week against Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki who tallied 8 receptions for 130 receiving yards and a touchdown. With the Bills most likely trying to shut down the duo of Kupp and Woods, the tight end position should see its fair share of targets. Anything close to the kind of production Miami had from Higbee or an uptick from Gerald Everett would go a long way towards a Ram victory.

2. Improve the Pass Rush

In an otherwise impressive defense, the Rams’ pass rush stands out at needing improvement. Through the first two weeks of the young season, the Rams have only racked up three sacks (all in Week 1). That’s a concerning number to have, especially when you have a guy such as Aaron Donald who often takes two linemen out of the picture. They’ve also only put pressure on the opposing QB 13 times. The Rams need to improve the pressure placed on Josh Allen this week. He’s already shown that he has no difficulty getting the job done through the air given the time, and can move the ball on the ground making him a double threat.

1. Protect Goff

The Bills’ pass defense has allowed 513 passing yards thus far this season, but that’s when they don’t get to the QB. Their defense relies heavily on the blitz to place pressure on the opposing QB.  The Bills have recorded 20 pressures on the opposing signal caller, along with 6 sacks. Rams fans know all too well what happens to Jared Goff when he’s put into pressure situations (hint: it isn’t pretty). It’ll be up to the offensive line to protect Goff at all costs and give him enough time to find the open man.
